Sturgis Station House Museum

In order for small community museums to receive much needed government funding, they must demonstrate their ability to work effectively in their communities and be responsive to the wishes and "vision" of what their community holds for its town museum. By involving community members in the planning and delivery of museum events, programs and services, valuable working partnerships reinforce the positive direction that community's wish to see their own museums grow. It can also be argued that in doing so, a deeper sence of community pride and positive community spirit is a welcome spinoff!

The Sturgis Station House Museum is gearing up to celebrate the 100th birthday of Sturgis in community wide activities being planned for 2012. What should we be striving to achieve for that home-coming celabration when so many former residents will undoubtedly be returning to Sturgis to help us celebrate? What could our museum do to really mark this important milestone in a truly special way? Do we have a new "legacy" we wish to pass along to the next generations to mark this special occasion?

As part of our planning process, we would like to cordially invite you to an informal information gathering session being planned for February 7th , 2011, @ 7:00 PM at the Sturgis town office. We would like to have you share your comments, concerns, ideas or suggestions with us and we in turn, would like to share some ideas with you. Perhaps together we can create some new goals and discover a bigger and better museum "vision" that encompasses the true community spirit of Sturgis which we hope to leave as our "legacy" after 2012. All comments are welcome!!!

We are also looking to recruit 3 new board members, so any interested volunteers are most welcome! In the event that you are unable to attend this meeting but have some suggestions or comments, please contact either Hazel Urbanoski @ 548-2993 or Lorraine Drayer @ 548-2808
